Flatcoated Retrievers
- The breed is well known for its sunny disposition and ever wagging tail.
- They are capable of getting along with cats and other dogs, small pets and strangers.
- Socialization and obedience classes are strongly recommended.
- They tend to be energetic, especially when young and need to have appropriate outlets for this.
- They need plenty of activity, both physically and mentally throughout their lives.
- They are sometimes referred to as the ‘Peter Pan of dogs’ because they never grow up, acting playfully and puppy-like into advanced years.
West Highland White Terrier
- Physically Westies are active and need plenty of exercise.
- As small dogs with short legs they need opportunities to run and play frequently.
- A Westie needs to be brushed regularly. Ideally this should be done on a weekly basis , but failing this you must be prepared to spend time grooming several times a week .
- The coat will need to be trimmed several times a year. In the majority of cases pet owners use the services of a professional groomer for this task. However for those that wish to show their dog it is a skill worth acquiring, though it may take many years to perfect.
Miniature Long Haired Dachshunds
- There are several types of Dachshunds ours are Miniature Long Haired and will need grooming weekly.
- When we acquired our first we had reservations regarding the comparatively small stature but were reassured by her fearlessness (nay, recklessness) in joining in any rough-house she didn’t actually start.
- Feel the silky coat and look into those liquid eyes and you can easily forget that they were bred to face up to a badger, playing at home.
- They bond quite happily with other dogs big and small, children and adults and adore showing off thinking they should be the centre of attention.
